Pantone Colour of the Year 2013: Emerald 17-5641

It’s hard to believe it’s that time of year again. Yesterday PANTONE announced their choice for the colour of the year 2013. Their choice is Emerald (17-5641) which they describe as a lively, radiant and lush green – a sophisticated and luxurious colour which is also the colour of growth, renewal and prosperity.

As I did with their choice for 2012 – I thought I’d gather a few ways you could add some of that lively green to your life right now:

From top left: Pot, Napkin, Clock, Rug, Ring, Rug, Pillow, Plate, Pillow, Chair, Rug

I cannot tell you how excited I am that a shade of Green is the colour of the year. I LOVE green, and not just because I’m Irish ;). I’ve had this picture pinned forever and I love it – the emerald green is a lovely contrast to the cream and black.

I’ve got bedside lamps with green dots on them, and I’ve been trying to put together my bedroom for a couple of years, but I’ve found green rather hard to find in fabrics and linens (at least at the stores I frequent). Hopefully this will change as the year goes on, and green will be easier to find as retailers take their cue from Pantone – just like they did in 2012.

What do you think of their choice? Are you loving it like I am, or are you wishing they picked something else?

June Flowers and a Tale of Woe

It’s nearly the end of June. Already. The end of the month, and yet again I’m doing my monthly flower post of the near to last day of the month. I want to be clear though – this month my tardiness wasn’t entirely my fault. I had a plan to have it completed in the middle of the month but I was thwarted.

Like a lot of other people in N. America I get a number of those group deal emails every day. I don’t purchase the deals too often, but from time to time there’s one that’s tempting. I’m rather careful about what deals I buy – last year I was one of the people who purchased a deal for a Toronto butcher (Google ‘butcher Toronto coupon’ for more info on that snafu if you’re unaware of it) that ended up being too good to be true. I did get my money back, but it’s made me a little more wary of the ‘deals’ that arrive in my inbox.

Anyways, in May there was a LivingSocial deal for either some fresh flowers or a flower arranging class, and after a quick Google search for bad reviews I decided to buy the class. I thought it would be nice to learn how to arrange flowers in a way that doesn’t look like I just unwrapped them and plopped them in a vase. After buying the coupon I called the shop and booked my class for June 16th.

On the 16thI left for my class and I was rather excited. I’ll admit I may have been drafting my triumphant blog entry about my monthly flowers being done in the middle of the month while I rode the streetcar on the way to the class, but I was truly excited about learning some tricks and techniques. That is, I was excited until I entered the shop and after saying I was there for the class was told that the class had been cancelled because LivingSocial hadn’t forwarded the money yet. Womp womp. So disappointed.

I haven’t tried to re-book my class so these flowers are more of the ‘I don’t know what I’m doing so I just stuck ‘em in a vase’ variety. I think they’re lovely no matter what though as they’re Peonies which are one of the prettiest flowers, and a personal favourite.

Do you like the vase? I think it’s very Jonathan Adler-esque, but I found it on clearance at HomeSense for $9. It’s decidedly quirky so I like it.

My Name is Michelle, and I’m a Procrastinator

Can you believe it’s the end of May already? How did that happen? It seems like only yesterday that it was April, and now it’s almost June, which means it’s almost the middle of the year!  This means that half of 2012 is gone. Finished. Over. Kaput. Done. The middle of the year means that I should have gotten a number of the things on my 2012 to-do list crossed off. Um. Yeah, not so much.

Procrastinator: (noun) Someone who postpones work (especially out of laziness or habitual carelessness).

Sigh. There should probably me a picture of me beside that definition. By my rather generous count I’ve crossed 5 out of 28 things on that list. That’s a measly 18%. I now have 30 days to cross a bunch of stuff off my list. Do you think I can get anywhere in neighbourhood of 30% complete? (Let’s be honest – I don’t think I have any hope of accomplishing half my list at this point).

Anyways, it’s time for my monthly ‘I bought myself flowers just because post’. As usual I’ve waited until the very last day of  the month to do it (see above definition for an explanation).

This month I went with roses. They’re always beautiful and classic. I chose them because I wanted to use my small silver vase, and I loved the pale pink hue (I was originally looking for Peonies, but the ones for sale looked rather droopy).

Why are stems on roses so long? Does anyone actually not cut the stems?

Hopefully I’ll get some projects completed in the next 30 days. At the very least I hope to be able to complete the refinishing of my new console. What about you? Do you have a list that you’re having trouble crossing things off of? Am I alone in my procrastination?

April 30 – Rain, Taxes and a Monday too!

Sorry I’ve been a bit off the radar recently – I needed a little blogging break. For those of you who blog have you ever just wanted to take a little break? I normally try to keep to a one-post a week schedule, but I do sometimes feel tremendous pressure to come up with something even a little interesting once a week – I have no idea how those who blog several times a week, or even daily do it.

Anyways, today is a 3 times yucky day. It’s a Monday, which is my least favourite day of the week (I’m guessing its very few peoples favourite). It’s raining, which while I know is needed to make all those spring flowers bloom, is still depressing, and lastly it tax day for us Canadians. See what I mean – 3 times yuck!

Handily today is also the last day of the April (How did that happen – how are we entering the 5th month of 2012 already?) which means it was my last day to buy myself some pretty flowers for the month. Flowers always cheer me up. So does chocolate. The last part is just an FYI in case you ever need to buy me a gift – I’ll be thrilled with either ;)

April Flowers – Mums

This month’s flowers are Mums in two colours – I’m not sure what it is about the lime green, but I love it paired with the pink.

In the next couple of days I hope to show you a store I got to explore during a recent trip to the Big Apple.
